In partnership with Star institute we are delighted to be working with Tor View Special School to deliver NPQSL.  This gives us facilitators who are experienced school leaders from primary, secondary and special education allowing participants to work cross-phase to develop their specialisms and practice. The National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership (NPQSL) is the leading qualification for current or aspiring senior leaders. The course tackles the challenges of leading across a school. Completing our NPQSL, equips you with the skills, knowledge and confidence to drive your school forward as part of a Senior Leadership Team.

The Department for Education has allocated a £10 million fund for scholarships for eligible candidates undertaking National Professional Qualifications in school leadership. Scholarships are for candidates in category 5 and 6 local authority districts, including Opportunity Areas like Blackpool, Oldham and Bradford, and other districts such as Liverpool, Wolverhampton, Knowsley, Salford, Pendle and Burnley. The scholarships are available on a first come first served basis until the fund is exhausted.

The six study modules you must complete are:

  • Teaching and Curriculum Excellence

  • Managing Resources and Risks
  • Increasing Capacity

Our programme offers 5 face-to-face leadership learning sessions all delivered 12.30-5.30pm.  The dates for 2019/20 are:






Assessment – In order to gain the qualification, you must successfully complete the NPQSL final assessment. You will be expected to lead an improvement programme across your school, lasting at least 2 terms, to reduce variation in pupil progress and attainment and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of teaching.

Support for Sponsors: the role of the sponsor is key to a participants success, to support sponsors we are holding a sponsors breakfast on 29/10/19 at 8am at The Hollins.  This will explain the role, the programme and assessment as well as an opportunity to meet with other sponsors.

Course duration – Each module includes 30 hours of learning all our sessions are held at Tor View School. Dates for 2019-2020 are TBC. (Face to face session 6 hours, workplace learning 18 hours, online learning/conferences 4 hours, reflective activity 2 hours)
